Hi, I’m Francesca Nacu.
I was born and raised in Manila, Philippines, where I experienced succession planning issues first-hand. My grandfather owned a successful construction company that was then inherited by my father, an Engineer. In typical family business fashion, my siblings and I grew up in the office, on construction sites, and even participated in public bids, learning the ins-and-outs of the business at a very early age while treating the staff like family. The family fell on hard times after several missteps led to the company’s downfall. That’s when I discovered my true entrepreneurial spirit and passion for business.
My sisters and I arranged a series of garage sales, selling upcycled materials at the age of 14. In high school, I began hosting events as a means of generating additional income for the family, frequently attracting corporate sponsorships and recruiting attendees from Manila’s Catholic schools. I apply this entrepreneurial drive to everything I do and it has carried me throughout my career and studies.
Given my family’s financial challenges, I began college at community college where I studied Business Administration before transitioning to the University of Virginia where I majored in Economics. I worked several jobs all at once, paying my way through school. After graduation, I built a successful career in business development – one in which I’ve brought in millions of dollars in new deals, led teams, grown revenues, and helped companies grow and exit.
Most recently, I pursued coursework at INSEAD (the #2 MBA in the world, according to Financial Times) and graduated with an MBA. Throughout the years of hard work and education, my business philosophy remains grounded by my upbringing: long-term sustainable growth is only achieved by treating employees and customers like family.
During my free time, I love to (in order):
Spend quality time with family, friends, and my dog-ter (Lola)
Learn about different cultures
Volunteer for causes like Eldercare, Childcare, Women’s Empowerment
Enjoy nature!
